In the mind of a true sandwich lover, there is no such thing as “too much sandwich.” If the sandwich is good, more sandwich is better, right? That’s exactly the kind of thinking that spawned the Metro Detroit sandwiches found below.

Mudgie’s Deli & Wine Shop

We thought we’d start with one of the biggest sandwiches around. “F’getaboutit” from Mudgie’s Deli & Wine Shop in Corktown holds two pounds of Sy Ginsberg corned beef. As you work your way up, you’ll find Swiss cheese, creamy coleslaw, sauerkraut, Dearborn yellow mustard and Thousand Island dressing, all on a two-pound loaf of sourdough rye bread. It’s $55, but with so much sandwich, you’ll probably want to split this beast.

Grand Trunk Pub

Named after its history as a Grand Trunk Railroad ticket station, this Detroit pub serves a few delicious sandwiches. Reuben fans will salivate at the sight of the Grand Trunk Pub Reuben. It’s piled up with your choice of  Wigley’s corned beef, dry rubbed turkey breast, whitefish or a veggie burger patty and The Poet Stout kraut, Guggisberg swiss cheese, 1000 Russians dressing on a golden wheat bakery rye bread. It’s a beast of a Reuben.

Ernie’s Market

If you’re looking for a sandwich stacked high, you can’t go wrong with Ernie’s Market in Oak Park. Getting a sandwich from Ernie himself is an experience. The sandwiches are piled high with whatever you like on it. Sometimes, you may even get stuff you didn’t ask for, but fear not, Ernie knows what he’s doing behind the counter. They only take cash at Ernie’s Market, but it’s worth every dollar.

The Silverado is the truck that works as hard as you do.

Bread Basket Deli

Known for its corned beef sandwiches, Bread Basket Deli sells more than 12 tons of corned beef every week, according to their website. That’s not surprising to hear when you see that you can buy corned beef sandwiches by the pound. With three sizes (“regular,” “original,” and “Pound It”) and a choice of corned beef, pastrami, roast beef, turkey and more, plus triple and quadruple decker sandwiches, you really can’t go wrong (or hungry) at Bread Basket.
